How does this energy converted/transferred into usable energy?
It works by coal being crushed to a fine dust and burnt.Oil and gas are burnt directly.

This type of energy is used today to power cars, heat homes during the cold seasons, and make electricity.Some other uses are:

Advantages:
-large amounts can be used for cheap
-gas-fired power stations are very effcient
-you can find fossil fuel plants almost anywhere
-transporting oil and gas to power stations is easy

Disadvantages
-fossil fuels is major pullotion
-produces carbon dioxide(CO2)
-contributes to acid rain
-Strip mining destroys large areas of the landscape
